His art draws from the colors and warmth of this land, but his works also benefit from the strong chromatic contribution that has its roots in that southern heritage inherited from his parents. The reds, the yellows, the blues, the greens are traces and underlining of a thought that comes from his soul in a spontaneous way, there are no uncertainties, but a strong desire to emphasize every single
emotion he feels.
In some paintings, the eyes of the subjects are placed between two parallel lines, a precise indication and emphasis on a point that the observer must absolutely not overlook, because it is precisely from that point that the subject sends his message.
Every feeling is expressed without filters, but in a direct and participatory way, even sadness and boredom are not neglected. His paintings are pages of a diary, where he expresses through drawing and color every single emotion and participation in life, no matter how small.
Rarely do his works depict moments of joy or carefreeness; they exist, but due to their ephemeral nature, it is not worth emphasizing them too much, precisely to avoid diminishing their intensity and duration.
Melancholy, on the other hand, must be maintained and shared; these are the suspended moments that lead the artist to participate in the most carnal and passionate way: in the before, during, and after of things, savoring every nuance.
There is a constant melancholy in the gaze and posture of the figures: whether they are participating in a religious event or at work.
Even the madman, although he acts violently, is simply a person who, perhaps in the wrong way, asks to be understood and loved.
Even though Gianni Capolei lives and has considerable artistic success in Germany, he has maintained his Latin temperament, as a man who loves the sea, the sun, and desires human and social contact, characteristics unique to Mediterranean peoples.
